What an interesting time in our lives! It is also an ideal time to set up new habits in this context of confinement at home … yes, I continue to see the bright side of things! Why not take the opportunity to give a little more attention to our nutrition? In this article, I offer my tips for making meal preparation practical, sustainable and fun!
A balanced plate
To prepare meals that energize and fill us, it is essential to have the three types of macronutrients on the plate. You can follow recipes or – even more simply – combine foods that complement each other well. But how do you know? Here’s a simplified way to categorize foods :
Foods to focus on
The more colours in our foods, the richer in varied nutrients! This contributes to strengthening our health and especially our immune system because they are rich in antioxidants. Also – although it can be a challenge right now – avoid processed foods and opt for canned and frozen fruits and vegetables. Contrary to what we can believe, frozen foods are harvested at full maturity and are more nutritious than fruits and vegetables harvested too young and imported for our consumption!
Cooking with the family
If you are parents like me, meal preparation – and not just in confinement for that matter – is an excellent opportunity to spend a quality time with family. It allows us to work as a team, make the time in the kitchen pleasant and connect with our kids!
