That’s it, summer is really over! I don’t know about you but it’s more difficult to get out of my bed in the morning! October 10th marked the World Health Mental day : an opportunity to recognize that everyone is going through difficult times and that some seasonal factors can exacerbate our depressive episodes and/or fatigue. Here are some of my tips to help you regain your spirits:
Vitamin D … activated!
The lack of sun resonates with fall and winter. We are less exposed to the sun, we go outside less because it’s colder, and it’s only a matter of weeks before we feel the effects…depressed and slowmo! A simple supplement of activated vitamin D (D3) can make a great difference in our mood. For my part, I use a supplement that combines vitamin D3 with omega-3.
It’s known that essential fatty acids (those that our body cannot manufacture and therefore we must obtain through our nutrition) have a very positive effect on our mood. Omega-3s are one of them and work directly on our brains to produce more serotonin, a natural mood stabilizer. Omega-3 supplementation is therefore strongly suggested.
Dark chocolate (no, milk chocolate doesn’t count!) is excellent for mental health. It acts directly on the biochemistry of our brain because:
– it contains polyphenols that have a protective effect on our brain;
– it stimulates the production of endorphins that contribute to our well-being;
– it contains serotonin which, as mentioned above, helps to stabilize our mood! (Yes! More good reasons to include dark chocolate and cocoa in my nutrition more often…)
Below, I share the recipes of smoothies that I created for one of my corporate clients! As for you, what are your tips to feel better? I’m interested to know!
